How is a website built?
To answer this question you need to first need to know what a web site is. A website is a series of code that contains information about text, images, video, audio, objects, links, colors, backgrounds and formatting that can be read by a computer and of course a programmer. A web browser translates the code into graphics, text, links that anyone can read and see.
To build a site a webmaster must write code that conforms to the layout, graphics, text links, colors, video, audio and whatever else the costumer asks for.
What is a server?
- A computer machine and program that is
responsible for
accepting
HTTP requests from clients, which are known as web browsers, and
serving them HTTP responses along with optional data contents, which
usually are web pages such as HTML documents and linked objects
(images, etc.).
What is a domain name?
- A name that identifies a computer or
computers on the
internet. These names appear as a component of a Web site's URL, e.g.
wikipedia.org. This type of domain name is also called a hostname.
- The product that domain name registrars
provide to their customers. These names are often called registered
domain names.
- Names used for other purposes in the
Domain Name
System (DNS), for example the special name which follows the @ sign in
an email address, or the Top-level domain names like .com, or the names
used by the Session Initiation Protocol (VoIP), or DomainKeys.
- They are sometimes colloquially (and incorrectly) referred to by marketers as "web addresses".
What is the difference between a business and a e-commerce site?
- A Business site talks about a company and
the services they offer for example, a cleaning or a construction
company.
- An e-commerce site in addition to talking about the company and their services, has the ability to sell products to costumers 24 hours a day.
Yes we offer site re-design. We can work with your old site's structure (layout) as well as the branding of the site and bring it up to date or we can design it from the bottom up and transfer the existing domain name.
What are search engines and directories?
- A search engine such as Google.com is a
search tool
that looks for information all over the web for you. you type keywords
(a search query) and the engine brings up a list of thousands of
websites that contain that information, products, pictures, documents,
or videos. Search engines crawl or index the web 24 hours a day with
robots called spiders. Once a site has been reached, its keywords are
indexed so that users can find it when they search for them. This gives
you more but broader results.
- A web directory such as Yahoo.com is a different type of search tool. The difference between this a nd a search engine is that a web directory does not crawl the web to index websites. A person has to manually accept or reject submitted websites. This gives fewer but more specific results.
How can I be on top of a search?
- Search engine placement is done by robots
using algorithms (In
mathematics, computing, linguistics, and related disciplines, an
algorithm is a definite list of well-defined instructions for
completing a task) This algorithms rank your website based
on
many factors like the age of the site, its keywords and description
found in the code (Meta Tags), on how relevant and informative the
website is to the search terms as well as other factors not revealed by
search engines.
- The very top (usually the top 3) and the side results are reserved for people who pay for those results to appear there. Its called pay per click. at JCM design we can setup your pay per click account with Google if you decide you want a lot of traffic to your site. this is usually better for e-commerce sites.
